About The Position

The Entry Screening Host is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of guests and staff at Newport Aquarium. This role involves controlling access, screening guests and their belongings, and maintaining a positive and professional demeanor. The position requires the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and stand for extended periods. The host will also provide information to guests and collaborate with team members to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone. This is a part-time, year-round position.

Requirements

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment background check.
  • Must be able to work adjacent to and properly operate electronic Metal Detection Units, Handheld wands, and electronic threat detection systems.
  • Must be able to deal professionally with any Guest that may need additional screening or has prohibited items in their possession.
  • Must be able to work outside, standing for an extended time, in all weather conditions.
  • Must be self-motivated to work independently, as well as, disciplined and reliable.
  • Demonstrates strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule which will include Saturdays.

  • Maintain knowledge of activities, aquatic life, and Newport Aquarium special events/promotions in order to properly notify and inform guests.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and adhere to Herschend Enterprises’ Core Values and Newport Aquarium Guest Service Standards, Policies and Procedures, and Safety Protocols.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and appearance at all times.
  • Greet all Guests in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Control access at Host and Guest entrances.
  • Search bags by visual and/or mechanical device.
  • Operate electronic Metal Detection Units, Handheld wands, and electronic threat detection systems.
  • Deal professionally with any Guest that may need additional screening or has prohibited items.
  • Be observant of any potentially suspicious activity and report the same to a Team Lead, Supervisor, or Law Enforcement officer.
  • Work outside, standing for an extended time, in all weather conditions.
  • Approach guests in a friendly manner to offer assistance and provide information regarding Newport Aquarium.
  • Arrive on time and ready to work all scheduled shifts, and in accordance with aquarium uniform and appearance standards.
  • Keep safety as a number one priority at all times.
  • Understand policies and procedures relating to the overall functions of Guest Service department.
  • Work with other team members/departments to ensure effective communication.
  • Maintain knowledge of activities, aquatic life, and Newport Aquarium special events/promotions.
  • Be self-motivated to work independently, as well as, disciplined and reliable.
  • Maintain appropriate guest and team member relations, ensuring guest and team satisfaction.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Work a flexible schedule which will include Saturdays.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations Management Team.
