The Gift Shop Clerk is responsible for providing outstanding customer service, meeting and exceeding sales targets, maintaining shop cleanliness and organization, and ensuring adequate stock levels. This role involves operating the cash register, handling various payment methods, opening and closing procedures, preparing soda fountain items, and assisting customers with purchases by imparting product knowledge. The clerk is expected to develop sales skills, understand product offerings, and contribute to shop improvements. Key duties include stocking shelves, checking in inventory, managing newspaper and magazine reserves, maintaining the stockroom, and performing regular housekeeping tasks. The position also requires vigilance against shoplifting, adherence to cost-reduction measures, and compliance with all company policies and service standards. The clerk must maintain a positive and professional image, engage shoppers, and work productively with or without supervision. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for interacting with guests and colleagues, as is the ability to learn and implement service steps and historical information about the establishment. Physical requirements include standing for extended periods, bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, and maneuvering items, as well as good vision and hearing.
