About The Position

The GI Technician - GI Lab Endoscopy position is responsible for performing a variety of technical and support activities in the Endoscopy department under the direction of the RN. This includes performing in the GI Assistant role, ensuring patient care, and maintaining a clean and functional environment for procedures. The role emphasizes quality, patient experience, and responsible resource management.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Must hold current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintain.
  • Able to speak, read and write in the English language.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years’ experience as Surgical Technologist or GI assistant preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Follows infection control policy and utilizes personal protection devices.
  • Cleans scopes and equipment following appropriate infection control procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and follows current policies, procedures, and SGNA standards.
  • Accurately handles and identifies specimens properly.
  • Properly handles and cares for all instruments and equipment, checking for proper function and completeness, and reporting faulty equipment.
  • Anticipates physician needs in the procedure room, passing instruments, scopes, and supplies.
  • Checks GI suite to ensure a clean environment, assists with cleaning during room turnover and terminal cleaning, and cleans and restocks GI rooms daily.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Uses computer system effectively for daily activities, such as printing the endoscopy schedule.
  • Attends in-services, inventory, and mandatory meetings.
  • Supports Health First's People Centered Caring philosophy.
  • Displays a positive image and demonstrates concern for patients, visitors, associates, and physicians.
  • Assists with precepting new technical personnel.
  • Maintains professional relations and communicates effectively with physicians, vendor representatives, staff members, nursing management, and staff from other hospital departments.
  • Contributes to the patient experience as evidenced by positive patient satisfaction scores and HCAHPS scores.
  • Demonstrates competency in setting up for procedures in a cost-effective manner.
  • Exhibits flexibility and adaptability to changes in duty assignments.
  • Shares responsibility of call coverage.
