PRN NP GI Hospitalist
About The Position
The PRN GI Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner works in the GI Hospitalist APP department, providing inpatient care and rounding with physicians at UAB St. Vincent’s East in Trussville, Alabama. The role includes onsite work with GI Hospitalists on Saturdays and Sundays and requires weekend availability. Benefits are not available for this PRN position. The practitioner evaluates and treats patients, accepts referrals, and may act as an admitting, attending, or consulting clinician for hospitalized patients with primary medical diagnoses, depending on patient, medical staff, and hospital needs. The role also contributes to care-quality and cost-effectiveness initiatives, academic programs as requested, insurance documentation and timely appeals, and inpatient and outpatient specialty consultations, which may include on-call schedules.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Nursing.
- BLS Provider credential from the American Heart Association, obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer.
- Certified Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner credential from the Alabama Board of Nursing, obtained before hire or job transfer.
- Availability to work weekends.

- Drug Enforcement Administration credential.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and treat patients using appropriate medical diagnostic and treatment skills.
- Recommend, participate in, and help ensure the success of initiatives to improve cost effectiveness and quality of patient care.
- Accept patient referrals from other physicians.
- Act as an admitting, attending, and/or consulting physician for hospitalized patients with primary medical diagnoses, as patient, medical staff, and hospital needs require.
- Participate in academic programs, such as medical education and research, as requested.
- Provide documentation that meets insurance company requirements and appeal denials in a timely manner.
- Participate in inpatient and outpatient specialty consultations, which may include on-call schedules.
- Round onsite with GI Hospitalists on Saturdays and Sundays.
