About The Position

The Plant Engineering Manager will be responsible for the overall plant assets, managing, tracking, and reporting on capital expenditures (CAPEX) and maintenance expenses. This role acts as a project manager for plant investment projects, collaborating with suppliers to define product specifications, organize equipment purchases, and evaluate products against quality standards. The manager will also hire, coach, and supervise maintenance staff, analyze labor utilization for preventive and predictive maintenance, and optimize workflow and equipment layout. Additionally, the position provides technical support for plant operations and improvement projects, including preliminary and detailed design, cost analysis, and equipment selection. The role involves developing, evaluating, and improving production control and automation systems, leveraging automation for consistency, and participating in risk analyses (PHA, PSSR, HAZOP). The manager will also train staff on root cause analysis processes (RCA/RCFA) and ensure compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements, including fixed equipment inspection and repair.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (ideally in mechanical or chemical engineering).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in plant maintenance, engineering, project engineering, or industrial manufacturing.
  • Membership in the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated track record in leadership, teamwork, adaptability, innovation, and initiative.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of personnel within the plant and the company.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a culture of professional safety.
  • In-depth knowledge of machine safety, CNESST requirements, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • On-call availability: must be reachable by cell phone and respond in case of emergency outside normal hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in continuous improvement (TPM, Six Sigma, Lean, 5S).
  • Experience in continuous and discontinuous processes; experience in batch processes, chemical processes, or any related field is an asset.
  • Experience in implementing and maintaining a Process Safety Management (PSM) program.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure accountability for all plant assets; manage, track, and report on capital expenditure (CAPEX) and maintenance expenses.
  • Act as project manager for plant investment projects.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to determine product specifications, organize the purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluate products against established quality standards and requirements.

  • Analyze and plan the use of maintenance labor, including preventive and predictive maintenance, space needs, workflows, and equipment and workstation layout to optimize efficiency.
  • Provide technical support to plant operations and improvement projects; prepare engineering analyses including preliminary and detailed design, project cost analysis, life cycle cost analysis, and equipment selection.
  • Develop, evaluate, and improve production control and automation systems based on knowledge of instrumentation, control, automation, product design, materials, chemical processes, and equipment capabilities.
  • Leverage automation and control systems to ensure consistency and standardization of production operations.
  • Participate in, lead, and contribute to risk analyses (PHA, PSSR, HAZOP).
  • Manage and train plant personnel on the use and application of root cause analysis (RCA/RCFA) processes.
  • Ensure compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) program requirements, including inspection and repair of fixed equipment.
