About The Position

Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join our Infrastructure Market team in Chicago, IL or Springfield, IL or St. Louis, MO. This full-time position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of transportation, site development, water resources, and other infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will apply geotechnical engineering principles to support planning, design, and construction efforts across multiple markets.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in geotechnical engineering.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical software such as GeoStudio, LPILE, SLIDE, PLAXIS, or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with subsurface exploration techniques and laboratory testing standards.
  • Strong understanding of soil-structure interaction and geotechnical design principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and technical report writing.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across disciplines.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to travel for field assignments and client meetings.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on geotechnical projects in transportation corridors, site development, facilities and water/wastewater systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform geotechnical investigations, including planning, field exploration, laboratory testing coordination, and data reduction.
  • Prepare geotechnical reports, foundation recommendations, slope stability analyses, and settlement evaluations.
  • Support design of foundations, retaining structures, embankments for roadways and railways, flood control systems and pavement systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including civil, structural, and environmental engineers.
  • Assist with construction support services such as submittal reviews, field observations, and problem resolution.
  • Participate in client meetings, site visits, and project coordination activities.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to technical development within the team.
  • Other duties as assigned.
