About The Position

ASRC Federal Technical Services is seeking a GIS Technician II to support the Census Bureau in Suitland, MD. This role focuses on maintaining the accuracy and completeness of the Census MAF/TIGER Database (MTDB), including digitizing necessary changes to boundaries, streets, and addresses using proprietary software. The position offers a hybrid work schedule with a mix of remote and on-site work. US Citizenship is required, and candidates must currently reside in the Maryland/Virginia/DC area.

Requirements

Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, or a related field with minimum of 2 years’ experience.
Experience with ArcGIS (workstation and desktop); Arc View, AutoCAD Map.
Good organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work as a member of a team.
Must be a US Citizen.

Nice To Haves

Some knowledge of civil engineering, cartography surveying and drafting strongly desired.
Experience with ArcSDE, ArcIMS, Cartography, Imagery, and understanding of Databases is a plus.

Responsibilities

Direct position in GIS data enhancement and maintenance using ESRI and custom GIS software.
Evaluate, edit, and check street centerline, hydrography, and other data layers (graphics and attributes), using custom map production tools.
Using computer software will include revisions and edits of GIS drawings and files. Edits made according to the instructions provided by the supervisors.
Additions or deletions of highlighted boundary or shape files
Reading instruction provided with the shape files
Reshaping road layers that should not be overlapping with the Hydro layers
Maintaining live spatial data in a secured environment.
Editing, modifying, and creating various data layers.
Will maintain daily production schedule and work with customized data automation tools and procedures
