About The Position

ASRC Federal Technical Services is seeking a GIS Technician II to support the Census Bureau in Suitland, MD. This position focuses on maintaining the accuracy and completeness of the Census MAF/TIGER Database (MTDB) by identifying and digitizing changes to boundaries, streets, and addresses using Census proprietary software. The role involves GIS data enhancement and maintenance using ESRI and custom GIS software, evaluating and editing various data layers, and making revisions to GIS drawings and files according to supervisor instructions. The technician will also be responsible for adding or deleting boundary or shape files, reshaping road layers, maintaining live spatial data, and working with customized data automation tools and procedures. This is a direct position with a hybrid work schedule.

Requirements

Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, or a related field with minimum of 2 years’ experience.
Experience with ArcGIS (workstation and desktop); Arc View, AutoCAD Map.
Good organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work as a member of a team.
Must be a US Citizen.
US Citizenship is required as is CURRENTLY residing in the Maryland/Virginia/DC area.

Nice To Haves

Some knowledge of civil engineering, cartography surveying and drafting strongly desired.
Experience with ArcSDE, ArcIMS, Cartography, Imagery, and understanding of Databases is a plus.

Responsibilities

Evaluate, edit, and check street centerline, hydrography, and other data layers (graphics and attributes), using custom map production tools.
Using computer software will include revisions and edits of GIS drawings and files.
Edits made according to the instructions provided by the supervisors.
Additions or deletions of highlighted boundary or shape files
Reading instruction provided with the shape files
Reshaping road layers that should not be over lapping with the Hydro layers
Maintaining live spatial data in a secured environment.
Editing, modifying, and creating various data layers.
Will maintain daily production schedule and work with customized data automation tools and procedures
