About The Position

AECOM is seeking a candidate for a long-term career opportunity supporting its military munitions response program (MMRP) team anywhere in the United States. The role is part of AECOM’s Advanced Geophysical Classification (AGC) program and supports the pursuit, planning, and delivery of munitions response projects for Department of Defense, state, and commercial clients. The position works directly with Project and QC Geophysicists to process and analyze standard digital geophysical mapping survey data and advanced electromagnetic induction (EMI) survey data, helping identify and classify subsurface anomalies that may be related to munitions and explosives of concern. The successful candidate will bring MMRP geophysical data-processing experience and independent problem-solving ability, provide technically strong and cost-effective client solutions, and lead, manage, and train junior-level data processors. The position is remote, with site visits as required. Newly hired employees must attend in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office as a condition of employment.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in geophysics, geology, or a closely related field.
At least 6 years of directly related munitions response geophysical experience, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check in accordance with company policy.
Ability to pass and maintain a security clearance.
U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of the work.

Experience and proficiency using the Geosoft Oasis montaj UXO Land module to process and analyze digital geophysical mapping survey data.
Experience and proficiency using the Geosoft Oasis montaj UX-Analyze module to process, analyze, and classify advanced EMI instrument survey data.
Master’s degree in geophysics, geology, or a closely related field.
Ability to develop, perform, and oversee quality procedures for advanced EMI instrument data acquisition and analysis.
Experience with one-pass AGC data processing and analysis, such as EMClass or BTField.
Experience with the theoretical and practical aspects of detecting and selecting a wide range of targets of interest and non-targets of interest.
Familiarity with current MMRP guidance for conducting munitions response digital geophysical mapping and advanced geophysical classification surveys and delivering high-quality, timely data to clients.
Experience writing Geosoft Oasis montaj scripts and coding in Python.
Strong leadership and verbal and written communication skills, good organizational ability, compatibility with other workers, and demonstrated ability to carry out independent original scientific thinking.

Responsibilities

Manage and monitor geophysical data acquisition by field geophysicists using geophysical systems, including advanced electromagnetic induction (EMI) instruments.
Process and analyze data from traditional digital geophysical mapping surveys and AGC mapping surveys.
Mentor practice-area staff and provide technical guidance and expertise.
Design and implement geophysical investigation plans for munitions response remedial investigations and removal actions under CERCLA and RCRA regulatory programs.
Select and use geophysical instruments and ancillary components, including high-precision global navigation satellite systems, inertial motion sensors, and LiDAR positioning systems, as well as software to control and integrate system components.
Prepare planning documents such as Munitions Response Quality Assurance Project Plans (MR-QAPP).
Conduct site visits as required.
