The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) is seeking a dedicated individual to protect and preserve Maryland's air, water, and land resources, and safeguard the health of its citizens. This Geologist III/Remedial Project Manager (RPM) position within the Federal Assessment and Remediation Division provides state oversight for environmental investigations and remediation at federal facilities. The role requires applying knowledge in geology, physics, chemistry, and mathematics to evaluate site-specific response actions, proficiency in geological cross-sections, maps, and field sampling methodologies. The incumbent will work independently at headquarters, field sites, and off-site meetings, reporting to a Geologist Supervisor. Key responsibilities include performing duties in conjunction with the Department and War, ensuring state regulations are addressed during technical investigations, assessing contamination across all media (with a focus on groundwater and water resource restoration), and evaluating potential threats to human health and the environment. This position requires the ability to wear a full-face respirator, completion of a 40-hour health and safety training course, and the ability to walk long distances over rough terrain. Occasional site visits or meetings during inclement weather may be required. Inspections of sites potentially contaminated with hazardous substances will be conducted in accordance with 29 CFR Part 1910, requiring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard-hats, steel-toed shoes, and potentially respirators and chemical protective gear.
