Geodetic Surveyors perform geodetic, geophysical, and GC-LiDAR surveys. They use, maintain, and troubleshoot survey equipment; compute, adjust, and evaluate geodetic and geophysical survey data; provide technical expertise on geodetic and geophysical issues to customers; and represent NGA in external community forums. NGA uses a flexible, high-mobility career model. Individuals are hired for their skills within a specialty and may be placed in various positions after completing the clearance process. Work may involve data analysis, resource administration, software development, data-flow management, writing and reviewing agreements, and logistics. This position supports a worldwide network of satellite tracking stations and requires participation in shift work, including periodic evening and weekend work. Overnight shifts are rare but possible, and employees are expected to be flexible when requirements or crisis responses require schedule changes. The position may offer a recruitment incentive, subject to eligibility. Candidates accepting an incentive must sign a service agreement requiring prorated repayment if the agreement is terminated before completion. This is a DCIPS position in the Excepted Service under 10 U.S.C. 1601. NGA employees are assigned to pay bands, with base salary determined by qualifications and a yearly performance-pay process that may result in a base-pay increase or bonus. Employment requires U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and retain a Top Secret clearance with access to SCI, including a Counterintelligence Polygraph. Drug testing, periodic eligibility examinations, and annual submission of a Security Financial Disclosure Report (SF-714) for employees with SCI access under NGA cognizance are required. A trial period applies during which NGA evaluates fitness for employment and whether continued employment advances the public interest. Applicants must demonstrate experience modeling scientific systems; communicating with leadership and stakeholders through written, visual, or verbal reporting and presentations; collaborating to meet project goals and deadlines; identifying, analyzing, and resolving challenging issues; conducting scientific or statistical analysis; and working with computer operating systems, networking, coding, or database management. Education must meet the specified degree-and-coursework requirement, or the stated combination of coursework and related experience totaling four years.
