The Medical University of South Carolina’s Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine seeks an academically oriented Genitourinary Pathologist for a tenure-track faculty position in Charleston, South Carolina. MUSC is a roughly 1,000-bed quaternary care hospital and regional referral center with a busy genitourinary service, active transplantation, molecular diagnostics and cytogenetics services, a Level I trauma center, a Transplant Center, and the state’s only NCI-designated Cancer Center. The department receives approximately $5 million annually in extramural funding and is consistently ranked in the upper half of U.S. pathology departments for NIH funding. The successful candidate will join the genitourinary pathology service and work with the Prostate and Genitourinary Cancer Care Team at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center. The position includes biopsy and resection specimens, general surgical pathology, frozen-section coverage, and shared general surgical pathology call. The faculty member will collaborate with clinicians and researchers, teach medical students, participate in pathology resident and fellow training, and contribute to the academic mission of Hollings Cancer Center programs. The relative effort devoted to research, teaching, administration, and patient care will be tailored to the candidate’s experience and career goals. The department has 12 faculty members, including two in the Genitourinary Pathology Section, and examines approximately 3,000 genitourinary surgical pathology accessions each year. It has 21 residents and 10–12 fellows, and offers a non-ACGME-accredited general surgical pathology fellowship. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications, expertise, and accomplishments.
