About The Position

The Genetics Technologist is responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical processes associated with specimen processing. The role involves operating specialized equipment, maintaining accurate records, ensuring quality is maintained, following safety, and regulatory standards. This includes participation in documenting and implementing Quality Assurance (QA)/Quality Control (QC)/Quality Inventory (QI) procedures. Assists in trouble shooting and maintenance of equipment.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or equivalent education and training required
  • Florida State Licensure in Molecular Pathology; not required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution preferred
  • ASCP or equivalent certification in Molecular Pathology preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in DNA, PCR techniques, and NGS preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction and supervision of the Genetics Supervisor.
  • Performs simple to complex assays utilizing established departmental protocols to include but not limited to Plasma Isolation, DNA or cfDNA extraction, PCR techniques, PCR clean up, Barcoding, Dilutions, and Next Generation Sequencing.
  • Strong attention to detail and focus on patient safety.
  • Reads, understands, and adheres to all the SOPs, policies, and protocols.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment, with detailed records.
  • Performs all pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testing processes accurately and timely, as well as independently.
  • Documents quality control (e.g. equipment/instrument maintenance, calibrations, certifications) to support quality assurance initiatives.
  • Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance, reporting of test results, or instrument functions. Troubleshoots and/or reports findings to supervisor, manager, or director.
  • Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specification.
  • Assists the supervisor in ensuring an efficient workflow operation and reports delays and/or problems.
  • Cleans and maintains lab equipment, instrumentation, and workspace.
  • Maintains and tracks inventory to support laboratory functions.
  • Comply with chemical hygiene and/or laboratory safety procedures.
  • Comply with all lab procedures, processes, and methodologies.
