Genetic Nucleus Farm Manager

Smithfield FoodsTillery, NC
Onsite

About The Position

The Function of this position is to maintain a 650 head Farrow to Finish Genetic Nucleus sow farm. This includes maintaining the physical structures, ensuring proper sow and pig flows, and implementing strategies to improve Genetic Index of the SPG Nucleus Herd. Every boar in a Smithfield boar stud (includes boar studs of genetic partners) originates at one of our SPG Nucleus herds. Responsibilities also require direct management of company systems, including cost reporting and budgeting, training/developing employees, animal welfare, and implementing and monitoring corporate program standards on employee safety, environmental management, and biosecurity. SPG genetic nucleus farms are responsible for managing the operations that drive the genetic progress for Smithfield Foods and our genetic partners. SPG farms regularly ship boars across state lines and across the US border to Mexico; this requires intense disease monitoring and detailed record keeping. Poor production or genetic progress in these herds are magnified across all of Smithfield. The Farrow to Finish nature of SPG NC farms adds levels of complexity when compared to the typical farm operations of Smithfield that only focus on one phase of production.
