Reporting directly to the Clinical Manager of the Cancer Genetics and Colposcopy clinics, the Genetic Counsellor, together with a team of medical oncologists and other health care professionals, provides family risk assessment, diagnosis, management, education and support to patients and their families. The duties include obtaining patient histories, reviewing relevant data, determining the risk of hereditary cancer syndromes and eligibility for genetic testing. Additional duties include, but are not restricted to, development and maintenance of the regional cancer genetics care pathway, liaising with the laboratory for specimen collection and coordination, participation in research, and supervision of student learners and volunteers.
