About The Position

The Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute at Hartford Hospital is seeking a per diem Genetic Counselor. Joining an active and growing team of licensed and certified genetic counselors within an established, system-wide cancer risk assessment program. This per-diem Genetic Counselor will primarily split time between Hartford Hospital and St. Vincent's Medical Center, directly supporting our high-risk pancreatic cancer surveillance program. The Genetic Counselor will counsel patients who may be at an increased risk for cancer, based on their personal and/or family history, perform risk assessment, coordinate germline genetic testing, and disclose results. Additionally, this Genetic Counselor will perform administrative duties relating to the high-risk pancreatic cancer surveillance program. The Genetic Counselor will participate in both local and system-wide tumor boards and case conferences, may attend multidisciplinary clinics, as well as Disease Management Team meetings. Some travel will be required to satellite clinics, as needed. This Genetic Counselor will additionally have opportunities to participate in team research projects, including possible grant writing, as well as provide educational lectures to healthcare professionals and/or the public.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Human Genetics/ Genetic Counseling required
  • ABGC Board certification is required at hire or the individual must be ABGC- board- eligible and have active candidate status
  • Connecticut Genetic Counselor license

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years’ experience in oncology genetic counseling is preferred
