Requirements

  • 1-2 years post high school education
  • 1-2 years in a health care related position
  • Excellent phone etiquette focused on customer service
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to handle confidential materials
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Attention to details
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment
  • Sensitivity to individual spiritual, cultural, language and ethnic differences

Responsibilities

  • Triaging incoming cases for genetic counselor and geneticist review
  • Assisting with collecting necessary patient clinical information prior to appointments, focused on patient medical and family history information
  • Coordinating and scheduling appointments
  • Updating patients' electronic medical records
  • Routing telephone calls
  • Assisting with the creation of educational materials and patient letters
  • Participating in team meetings and performance/quality improvement projects
  • Providing cross-coverage and travel to other clinic locations to provide support as needed
  • Speaking to patients to collect family history information and documenting this history in the EMR system
  • Answering common questions from patients about upcoming appointments
  • Helping patients access personal or family prior genetic testing prior to appointment as directed by genetic counselors
  • Triaging patient scheduling based on referral indication
  • Ensuring patients have accurate directions for upcoming appointments
  • Coordinating and researching all insurance coverage for genetic testing for patients
  • Preparing letters of medical necessity with guidance from genetic counselors
  • Coordinating genetic testing for family members for diagnostic testing at the direction of the genetic counselor by inputting accurate orders in laboratory on-line portals
  • Checking the status of outstanding genetic testing and adjusting patient follow-up appointments as needed
  • Sending MyChart messages to patients with low-risk results, documenting information appropriately in EMR and asking with any patient follow-up calls related to these messages
  • Acting as a resource for administrative staff with questions about incoming referrals and patient inquiries
  • Demonstrating outstanding written, verbal, non-verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Performing other duties as assigned
  • Complying with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct
