About The Position

Clifford Power Systems, Inc. is seeking a qualified candidate for a position as a Generator Field Service Technician in the San Antonio area. This role is ideal for someone who is mechanically inclined, a problem solver, and enjoys fixing things. While prior experience in power generation is not required, the company offers training to build expertise. The position involves working with diesel, natural gas, or propane engines, as well as various AC power systems (120/240v single phase, 277/480v three phase) and DC controls (12v to 24v). Technicians use laptops to interface with control software. A typical day involves checking the schedule via tablet/laptop, traveling from home in a company-provided service truck to customer sites for tasks such as Planned Maintenance Inspections, Engine Services, Quoted Service Repairs, Emergency Trouble Calls, or commissioning new generators. After completing tasks, technicians finalize paperwork electronically using a Mobile Technician Application, which also syncs schedule updates. Travel to the office is only required for parts or supplies.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • 2 years of experience with diesel and/or natural gas engines, generators, and automatic transfer switches
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Basic mechanical and electrical knowledge
  • Motivated to participate in training to increase generator knowledge
  • Common hand tools and electrical meter required to perform troubleshooting, repair and maintenance

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service above and beyond the customer’s expectations
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose engine and electrical repairs on power generation equipment (engine-driven generators and automatic transfer switches)
  • Perform work on power generation equipment located at customer sites, or occasional work at our local shop
  • Use safe practices with operation of service truck
  • Perform preventive maintenance on power generation equipment
  • Perform start-ups on new power generation equipment
  • Perform warranty work on power generation equipment
  • Process required paperwork and electronic submissions within deadlines
  • Maintain parts inventory of service truck
  • Participate in the rotating responsibility of a 24/7 on-call technician rotation
