This role is for a Generation Operator I (GO) at Anclote Station. To qualify, the incumbent must have been qualified as a journeyman operator at a combustion turbine combined cycle, coal, oil, trash recycle, nuclear, or natural gas power station. Within an 18-month period, the GO will be responsible for successfully completing the FHOF Generation Operator Development Program, which includes obtaining a Maintenance Progression in electrical, instrumentation and controls, and mechanical fields. Additionally, within the 18-month period, under direct supervision and on a rotating shift schedule, the GO will achieve minimal operations and required maintenance skills in Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) Operations, Wastewater Treatment (WWT) Operations, and all Station Laboratory duties. Failure to complete the program may result in disqualification. During this period, the GO will undergo training and job shadowing, perform board watch, conduct plant rounds, assess plant equipment and systems, and perform Progression Maintenance tasks.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • 3 years directly related experience as a journeyman power station operator (solar, wind or hydro experience does not apply) required, or three years’ experience in ancillary power operations in a military context
  • Must achieve test-recommended score on the Edison Electrical Institute (EEI) MASS, at the I&C level, and the POSS tests
  • An operator journeyman level skill set is required
  • Incumbent must be fully competent in power station operations
  • Incumbent must also be well versed in the underlying theoretical applications of thermodynamics
  • A complete understanding of power station water chemistry functions and applications (e.g., proper sampling, analysis, and related instrument calibrations) is required
  • This position contains a weight restriction of 275 pounds as an essential function of the job
  • Must live within one (1) hour travel time of the plant
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Must not be impaired by colorblindness

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree, or the military equivalent, in a related technical field preferred
  • Three years directly related experience in lieu of a technical degree is required
  • Navy Nuclear Experience

Responsibilities

  • Training and instructional assignments in board watch (monitor and maintain plant parameters in accordance design basis; spot emergency conditions; protect individual safety and plant equipment integrity at all times; coordinate unit dispatch with unit control centers; stay engaged with portfolio management in order to sustain system requirements)
  • Performance of routine site rounds
  • Maintenance of the control center log
  • Ensuring that proper LOTO procedures are performed as directed
  • Coordination with operations of the work of maintenance personnel, to include vendor and Company maintenance personnel
  • Training and instructional assignments in basic, fundamental troubleshooting and repair of Plant, FGD, and WWT equipment
  • Identification of equipment that needs journeyman repair, and the contacting of station leadership to prepare work orders for that work
  • Training and instructional assignments in water chemistry duties such as water softener operation, demineralizer operation, polisher operation, sampling, analysis, and the routine performance of analyzer calibrations
