About The Position

Sonoco Products Company is hiring a General Worker at its paper mill in City of Industry. This rotating-shift position is responsible to the Production Supervisor, Shift Supervisor, or Machine Tender. The role supports the safe and efficient unloading, handling, and storage of recovered fiber and scrap material, along with maintaining related equipment and keeping the yard and work areas clean and orderly.

The schedule rotates through first, second, and third shifts on a 28-day cycle. The posted pay rate is $28.44. The position requires safe operation of clamp trucks, a forklift, and a tractor to handle recovered fiber and other materials. Employees must follow safety practices, report damage or unsafe conditions, and perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

• Ability to manually push, pull, and lift some equipment and materials when mechanical means are not possible.
• Excellent work history in safety and attendance.
• Ability to work the rotating shift schedule, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
• Attention to detail and consistent performance.

Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently unload and store incoming recovered scrap material and recovered fiber.
• Maintain related equipment and keep the beater room, yard, storage areas, and aisles clean and orderly.
• Unload baled recovered fiber using a fork truck with a clamp attachment.
• Learn to recognize the different types of corrugated furnish used in formula mixes for the paper grades produced.
• Move and store loose recovered fiber using a Caterpillar T-12 tractor with a clamp attachment.
• Load fiber onto the hydrapulper conveyor.
• Haul bales from storage and place them in temporary storage areas for consumption on second and third shifts.
• Operate a Hyster 8000 Clamp Truck to load the pulper conveyor and unload baled furnish from flat-bed trailers, storing it according to type and grade.
• Operate a Toyota 4500 Fork Truck to haul bins, equipment, scrap rolls, and other materials between mill areas.
• Follow Sonoco safety practices and immediately report damage or unsafe conditions.
• Perform other assigned duties.
