About The Position

The General Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings, applying practical—but not journeyman-level—knowledge of trades such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work. The employee keeps the Supervisor apprised of unique situations and problems encountered. Work includes planning and laying out tasks based on blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal instructions; maintaining equipment and machinery; assisting other crafts and trades personnel; and ensuring work complies with plans, specifications, policies, and regulations. The employee also maintains clean, unobstructed work areas and mechanical rooms and supports grounds maintenance when needed. This position is designated Mission Critical and may be required to support installation safety and security needs during lockdown conditions, including snow and ice control during inclement weather. The employee may also be assigned to an emergency management or response team to meet company contract requirements. Required personal protective equipment must be worn and used.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
At least two years of experience performing preventative maintenance.
At least four years of building maintenance and housing maintenance experience.
Valid driver's license.
Practical knowledge below journeyman level in carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and painting.
Knowledge of building plans and schematics.
Knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and painting tools and equipment.
Good organization and communication skills, as well as maturity.
Ability to interact with people at all levels, both inside and outside the company.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including repeated arm, wrist, hand, or finger motions; occasional walking, standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; and close vision.

Responsibilities

Replace electrical receptacle covers and switches, patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings, repair or replace sinks, water coolers, and toilets, paint structures and equipment, replace damaged sheet rock, paneling, floor tiles, and ceiling tiles, and hang doors and install door locks.
Replace broken windowpanes.
Perform general maintenance on equipment or machinery.
Install or repair electrical equipment and perform painting, plumbing, and masonry work.
Plan and lay out work using blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal instructions.
Assist other crafts and trades personnel in their daily operations.
Ensure work complies with plans, specifications, policies, and regulations.
Maintain good housekeeping practices and clean work areas and mechanical rooms to keep them unobstructed.
Assist grounds maintenance staff with snow removal using small hand tools and act as a spotter during grounds or labor work when needed.
Support the project Safety Plan through personal involvement, training, and adherence to safety requirements.
Wear and use required personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses, safety shoes, ear plugs, and a hardhat.
Perform other tasks as directed by the supervisor and other duties as assigned.
