About The Position

The Medical University of South Carolina’s (MUSC) Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine seeks an academically-oriented, board-certified General Surgical Pathologist with experience and/or interest in one or more of the following subspecialties: Gastrointestinal/Liver, Head and Neck/Endocrine, Gynecological, and/or Dermatopathology. MUSC is the quaternary medical center for South Carolina and a comprehensive transplant center. The department has significant extramural funding and is consistently ranked in the upper half of pathology departments in the United States for National Institutes of Health funding. The Surgical Pathology section has subspecialty expertise in various areas, and the department offers high-quality training programs and multiple fellowship opportunities.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of post-fellowship experience is preferred; current fellow/recent graduates will be considered.
  • MD or equivalent degree with pathology specialty training and certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology.
  • Fellowship training in such subspecialties as Gynecological Pathology, Gastrointestinal/Liver, and/or Head and Neck/Endocrine.
  • Board certification in AP or AP/CP.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in South Carolina.
  • Experience in fostering collaborative relationships with colleagues, clinicians and researchers.
  • Excellent communication skills, work ethic, and team player approach to patient care.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and/or interest in Gastrointestinal/Liver, Head and Neck/Endocrine, Gynecological, and/or Dermatopathology subspecialties.

Responsibilities

  • Serving as the diagnostic resource for area of subspecialty surgical cases.
  • Serving as a resource to technologists at the bench.
  • Participation in clinical and/or translational research endeavors.
  • Instructing medical students.
  • Participating in the training of pathology residents and surgical pathology fellows.
  • Actively participating in the academic mission of the Hollings Cancer Center adult and pediatric programs and subspecialty tumor board.
