About The Position

The Medical University of South Carolina’s (MUSC) Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine seeks an academically-oriented, board-certified General Surgical Pathologist with experience and/or interest in one or more of the following subspecialties: Gastrointestinal/Liver, Head and Neck/Endocrine, Gynecological, and/or Dermatopathology. MUSC is a quaternary medical center and comprehensive transplant center, including the Hollings Cancer Center (an NCI-designated center), Ashley River Tower hospital, Shawn Jenkins Children’s / Pearl Tourville Women’s Pavilion Hospital, and the Main MUSC hospital. The Surgical Pathology section has subspecialty expertise in various areas, and the Department has significant annual extramural funding. The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of post-fellowship experience, though current fellows and recent graduates will be considered. Responsibilities include diagnostic services, participation in research, instruction of students and trainees, and active participation in academic missions and tumor boards.

Requirements

  • MD or equivalent degree with pathology specialty training.
  • Board certification in Anatomic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology.
  • Fellowship training in Gynecological Pathology, Gastrointestinal/Liver, Head and Neck/Endocrine, and/or Dermatopathology.
  • Board certification in AP or AP/CP.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in South Carolina.
  • Excellent communication skills, work ethic, and team player approach to patient care.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-3 years of post-fellowship experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the diagnostic resource for subspecialty surgical cases.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with colleagues, clinicians, and researchers.
  • Participate in clinical and/or translational research endeavors.
  • Instruct medical students, pathology residents, and surgical pathology fellows.
  • Actively participate in the academic mission of the Hollings Cancer Center adult and pediatric programs and subspecialty tumor boards.
