About The Position

The Department of Surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine - Jacksonville is seeking a Medical Director for UF Health Jacksonville’s Comprehensive Hernia Center and Abdominal Wall Program. This position is at the non-tenure accruing level of Clinical Assistant, Associate, or Professor. The department serves as a tertiary referral center for Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia and is home to divisions of Gastrointestinal Surgery/Surgical Oncology, Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery, and Trauma/Acute Care/Critical Care. The department is preparing for significant growth and expansion of its elective surgical practice. The mission is to be the region’s most valued surgical health care asset, offering the nation's best surgical care. The Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery/Surgical Oncology has eleven faculty members with subspecialties including breast surgery, colon and rectal surgery, hepatopancreaticobiliary, surgical oncology, and minimally invasive surgery. We are looking for a candidate with advanced training in hernias and abdominal wall reconstruction, who is MD or DO, Board Certified/Eligible in General Surgery, and experienced in all aspects of evaluation and treatment, including minimally invasive robotic and laparoscopic surgery. Major responsibilities include building a comprehensive hernia center and elective general surgery practice, as well as educating medical students and residents. The candidate will join a diverse academic general surgery practice that includes a growing advanced GI/MIS, robotic, and oncology program. Salary and academic appointment are negotiable, and benefits are excellent. No trauma calls are required. This position reports to the Chief of Gastrointestinal Surgery and Surgical Oncology and the Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine - Jacksonville. Every faculty member will have a mentoring team and participate in the department-wide faculty development program.

Requirements

MD or DO
Board Certified/Eligible in General Surgery
Experience in all aspects of the evaluation and treatment including minimally invasive approaches of robotic and laparoscopic surgery.

Nice To Haves

Fellowship training in Minimally Invasive Surgery/Advanced GI Surgery is preferred

Responsibilities

Provide and maintain a high level of quality of patient care services in all aspects of General Surgery and Minimally Invasive Surgery
Provide clinical teaching of trainees in General Surgery and actively participate in the educational program.
Be responsible for excellent communication with primary care physicians, consulting services, and other referring providers.
Assist in marketing the General Surgery Programs to community physicians and managed care organizations.
Participate in monthly division and department meetings, administrative functions and institutional committees as requested.
Building a comprehensive hernia center and elective general surgery practice.
Providing education of medical students, and residents.
