Provide comprehensive surgical care within a collaborative international healthcare environment supporting U.S. government personnel in Iraq. Working alongside CRNAs, OR nurses, surgical technologists, and multidisciplinary medical teams, this General Surgeon role combines operative leadership with emergency surgical response, perioperative management, and continuity of care across a broad range of surgical cases. This opportunity offers the ability to practice across a wide surgical scope while contributing to patient stabilization, trauma response, and high-quality outcomes in a professionally supported clinical setting.

Requirements

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school with board certification or recent ABS qualification in General Surgery.
  • Active unrestricted U.S. physician licensure and current BLS, ACLS, and ATLS certifications required.
  • 5+ years of recent surgical experience, including active clinical practice within the past year.
  • Ability to manage emergency and general surgical cases across a broad operative scope in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident with a valid passport
  • Ability to obtain and maintain MRPT security clearance and meet pre-deployment physical requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience supporting military, government, or international healthcare environments.
  • Recent Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) or advanced trauma training experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a broad range of emergency and general surgical procedures, including abdominal, vascular, orthopedic, urologic, and soft-tissue cases while maintaining patient safety and quality standards.
  • Lead surgical care across the perioperative continuum, including patient evaluation, operative planning, postoperative management, and follow-up care.
  • Collaborate closely with CRNAs, nursing teams, and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals to support coordinated surgical and emergency care delivery.
  • Support trauma and urgent surgical response efforts while maintaining accurate documentation, operative reporting, and compliance with clinical protocols.
  • Educate patients and families regarding surgical procedures, recovery expectations, postoperative care, and treatment planning.
