About The Position

The General Support I position assists with plant operations, equipment operation, general maintenance, cleaning, and material handling. The role is primarily based at the Kitty Hawk Sales Yard, with travel to the Elizabeth City Sales Yard or other facilities as needed. Work includes plant and area cleaning, inspections, preventative maintenance, groundskeeping, and support for maintenance personnel. Other duties may include operating mobile or fixed plant equipment and assisting with tasks throughout the facility.

Requirements

High school diploma/GED or an equivalent combination of training and work experience.
Entry-level experience in the mining or construction industry.
Ability to speak, read, and have a working knowledge of English.
Ability to operate a skid-steer, forklift, or similar cleanup loader.
Ability to work required overtime and a flexible work schedule.
Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods; grip, climb, reach, shovel, squat, crawl, pull, push, bend, and lift 45 pounds.
Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, and varying or extreme weather conditions.
Ability to work in high or precarious places and cramped workspaces requiring awkward positions.
May be required to wear a respirator.
Frequently works near moving mechanical parts and vehicular traffic.

Responsibilities

Assist with the operation of the plant.
Clean, wash, sweep, and shovel material.
Perform safety and operational inspections.
Perform and inspect for preventative plant maintenance.
Assist with maintenance activities as directed, including repairs and cleanup.
Operate mobile equipment and fixed plant equipment as needed.
Clean spilled material from beneath conveyors, tail pulleys, and structures; remove debris from stairs, catwalks, platforms, and tunnels; wash concrete pads; and sweep control houses.
Inspect assigned areas and document safety concerns and mechanical defects.
Unload and clean rail cars and/or barges as required, if applicable.
Maintain grounds by mowing grass and picking up litter.
Maintain good housekeeping practices on equipment.
Travel to other facilities when required.
