About The Position

Barton Malow is expanding its footprint in one of our newest and fastest‑growing regions — Charleston, South Carolina — and we’re seeking an experienced General Superintendent to help lead the way. This individual will play a pivotal role in shaping complex, high‑visibility projects across healthcare, sports and entertainment, higher education, and other transformative market sectors. The General Superintendent will serve as the on‑site leader responsible for driving safety, quality, and schedule excellence while coordinating the efforts of multiple trade partners to deliver exceptional results for our clients. This role demands a seasoned builder with deep field expertise and a proactive leadership style. With projects often exceeding $50 million in value, this leader will be entrusted with developing detailed project schedules, managing site logistics, resolving field challenges, and maintaining strong communication with project teams and owners. The position calls for advanced knowledge of construction principles, codes, and best practices, along with the ability to navigate and verify complex architectural, mechanical, and electrical documents — all essential to delivering the caliber of work Barton Malow is known for.

Requirements

• Minimum 15 years’ experience in the construction industry including complex projects greater than $50+ Million.
• Intermediate skills in Bluebeam, Prolog, Box, P6, Navisworks.
• Basic knowledge of document control process; including processes related to drawing management, RFIs, submittals, issue tracking, punch list, commissioning & turnover.
• 4-year technical/engineering degree or equivalent experience.
• Local experience and contractor knowledge preferred.
• Ability to manage risk aspects of the project.
• OSHA 30 hour.

• Advanced knowledge in construction principles, practices and methods, performance standards, environmental regulations, workplace safety.
• Advanced knowledge of regulations, codes, standards, and best practices.
• Advanced ability to navigate, read and verify project drawings, specifications and submittals, with an understanding of architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings.
• Strong negotiation skills to resolve field issues with subcontractor, design team and/or owner.
• Strong ability to effectively communicate with all members of the team.
• Ability to professionally handle conflicts and confrontations.

Responsibilities

• Promote and enforce a safe work environment and safe work practices for all trade contractors and the overall construction site.
• Supervise and coordinate various contractors to ensure their contracts are fulfilled on schedule, in accordance with plans and specifications, while ensuring a quality product for the owner.
• Enforce corporate safety policies on jobsite, providing key responsibility for safety compliance in the field.
• Implement proactive pre-task safety planning for all work activities.
• Supervise, coordinate and sequence contractors’ work.
• Monitor performance and coordinate work to maintain productivity of trades, ensuring adequate manpower for work in place.
• Develop and maintain complete and detailed project schedule and manage work in accordance with the schedule.
• Coordinate and track material deliveries.
• Develop site logistics plans for entire project to maximize productivity.
• Demonstrate fiscal responsibility by enforcing contract requirements and limiting field changes.
• Assist with development of work scopes and front end documents.
• Communicate effectively with the Project Manager.
• Effective timely resolution of conflicts and disputes to minimize delays and claims.
