About The Position

The General Superintendent provides overall direction and guidance to field supervision and craft personnel, ensuring adherence to CEC's quality, safety, and cost-efficiency guidelines. This role involves solving a wide range of difficult problems with imaginative, thorough, and practical solutions. The position plans, directs, and coordinates craft personnel to meet fluctuating labor needs in construction and maintenance, directs and mentors supervisory personnel, and ensures compliance with safety and administrative requirements. The General Superintendent serves as a senior technical advisor, assists with construction and start-up challenges, and ensures adherence to company policies and procedures. They also play a key role in implementing and interpreting safety policies, participating in incident investigations, and authorizing craft personnel transactions. Additionally, this role develops and monitors quality control programs, resolves work procedure issues, and participates in the conceptual development and implementation of construction projects. Requisitioning supplies and materials, ensuring accurate labor and cost reporting, and assisting in supervisory training programs are also key functions. The General Superintendent partners with safety personnel to promote a strong safety culture and leads the Operational Risk Management (ORM) initiative. Outstanding diplomacy, customer-facing, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills are essential. Travel requirements are less than 25%, though this may vary. The role performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient operations and project completion.

Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Extensive (10+ years) construction labor management experience (or equivalent combination of education/training and related experience.)
  • Must have a current Drivers License and reliable transportation.
  • Must meet attendance standards and comply with late/absence notification procedures.
  • Must be able to pass drug and background check.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of electrical construction (technology, equipment, methods); knowledge of mechanical and technology construction
  • Thorough knowledge of company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of OSHA regulations, relevant federal, state, and local guidelines, as well as company safety policies and procedures
  • OSHA-30 certification (if not currently certified, must be obtained within six (6) months from date of hire)
  • Outstanding leadership and team-building skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve problems before major difficulties develop
  • Ability to manage differences and diversity in the workplace
  • Outstanding coaching and motivational skills
  • Outstanding scheduling and forecasting skills
  • Solid MS Office skills and ability/desire to learn new software
  • Employment is contingent upon satisfying all jobsite-specific access requirements, with no outstanding restrictions from any jobsite or from working with any of CECs partnering General Contractors, Owners, Customers, etc.

  • Some advanced education and technical training highly desirable
  • Bilingual (Spanish Speaking) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of electrical, HVAC, controls, technology, and facilities services, and labor skill levels associated with each.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate craft personnel in support of the fields fluctuating labor needs for activities related to construction and maintenance.
  • Direct, support, and mentor all subordinate supervisory personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and administrative requirements.
  • Serve as senior technical advisor.
  • Assist with difficult construction and start-up problems, as necessary.
  • Ensure all company, department, and technical policies, procedures, standards, etc., are adhered to.
  • Interpret policies as required.
  • Assist with the implementation and interpretation of safety policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Participate in safety/incident investigations and reviews.
  • Authorize/approve all craft personnel transactions (hires, transfers, wage changes, terminations, etc.) according to individual performance and group needs.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor quality control programs.
  • Monitor and resolve matters relating to work procedures, complaints, damages, accidents, and delays.
  • Participate in the conceptual development of construction projects and oversee their organization, scheduling, and implementation.
  • Requisition supplies and materials for construction projects.
  • Ensure superintendents routinely prepare and submit labor and cost tracking reports.
  • Assist in the development of supervisory training programs.
  • Partners with safety personnel to promote the Company's safety vision, objectives, strategies, policies, and procedures to build a safety culture dedicated to behaviors which lead to best in class results.
  • Leads the Operational Risk Management (ORM) initiative to drive employee engagement and reduce incidents.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, completion of projects and smooth operation of department.
