About The Position

The General Special Education Teacher will work with students with significant emotional and behavioral disabilities, including cognitive delays. This role requires strong behavior management and leadership skills, and the ability to modify and differentiate curriculum to meet students' needs. The teacher will also supervise and lead support staff. Experience with Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS) training and writing/implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), including progress monitoring, is desired. Regular attendance and dependability are required. Other responsibilities may be assigned, and the assignment is subject to change.

Requirements

  • Knowledge regarding or experience with students with significant emotional and behavioral disabilities, including cognitive delays.
  • Strong behavior management skills.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to modify curriculum to meet students' needs.
  • Ability to differentiate the curriculum.
  • Must have or be eligible for appropriate teaching certification upon hire.
  • NYS Certification students with disabilities all grades.

Nice To Haves

  • Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS) training and experience.
