About The Position

Smithfield production employees handle materials and use hand tools, knives, machinery, and equipment to help deliver food. The work is physically demanding and requires hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, strength, and stamina. Employees must be available to work scheduled hours, which may include mandatory overtime based on production demands. Specific essential functions may vary by position, and employees may perform other duties as assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform essential functions.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Able to perform continuous or repetitive movements, including grasping, pinching, and flexing and extending the arms.
• Able to stand on concrete and/or platforms for up to a 12-hour shift.
• Able to work around animal blood and/or carcass parts.
• Able to work with a knife if trained.
• Able to work in cold areas (approximately 20–40 degrees) and/or warm areas (over 100 degrees), and in wet and humid conditions.
• Able to work while wearing a hard hat, hearing and eye protection, and steel-toed safety shoes; able to use personal protective equipment in noisy environments.
• Able to work with sanitation and cleaning chemicals and around strong smells or odors.
• Able to climb or move on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways, and platforms.
• Able to bend, stoop, and twist repetitively throughout a shift and walk long distances.
• Able to meet the physical demands of the work; some positions may require repetitive overhead lifting up to 30 pounds, single lifts up to 60 pounds, or lifting with mechanical assistance.
• Able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, with reasonable accommodations where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Handle materials and use hand tools, knives, machinery, and equipment in production work.
• Follow oral and written instructions and perform assigned production duties.
• Remain available for scheduled work hours, including mandatory overtime when production demands require it.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Hourly starting pay of $17.65, increasing to $21.25 after 90 days of employment.
