General Production - 1st Shift

About The Position

Production employees at Smithfield handle materials and use hand tools, knives, machinery, and equipment to help deliver food responsibly. The work is physically demanding and requires hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, strength, and stamina. Team members must be available to work scheduled hours, which may include mandatory overtime depending on production demands. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be willing and able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Must be able to perform continuous or repetitive movements, including grasping, pinching, and flexing and extending the arms.
Must be able to stand on concrete and/or platforms for up to a 12-hour shift.
Must be willing and able to work around animal blood and/or carcass parts.
Must be able to work with a knife if trained.
Must be able to work in cold areas of approximately 20–40 degrees and/or warm areas over 100 degrees.
Must be able to work in a wet and humid environment.
Must be able to wear a hard hat, hearing and eye protection, and steel-toed safety shoes.
Must be able to work in a noisy environment using personal protective equipment.
Must be able to work with sanitation and cleaning chemicals and around strong smells or odors.
Must be able to climb and move on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways, and platforms.
Must be able to bend, stoop, and twist repetitively throughout a shift and walk long distances.
Must be capable of physically demanding work involving some or all body parts and muscle groups.
Some positions may require repetitive overhead lifting up to 30 lbs, single lifting of objects up to 60 lbs, or lifting objects using mechanical assistance.
