About The Position

BlueLinx is seeking a results-driven General Manager with a proven track record of leading sales teams and managing profit and loss (P&L) responsibilities. This role is responsible for aligning local market strategy with corporate strategy to maximize long-term profit and return on working capital. The General Manager will manage all aspects of logistics in the assigned district, develop relationships with key customers, and ensure customer commitments are met while implementing best practices for safety, material handling, inventory management, and delivery. This position also oversees sales strategy, collaborates with operations, manages sales representatives to improve profitability and product penetration, conducts joint sales calls, manages inventory levels, leads and develops the team, and ensures direct reports receive applicable training and development opportunities.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited University is strongly preferred.
  • 8 plus years of experience with a solid track record of enhancing sales AND Operational involvement
  • Strong communication - communicating with executive and business partners, as well as front-line employees to gain trust and embrace the BlueLinx culture.
  • Strategic planning, negotiation, financial acumen (specifically financial statements), strong analytical skills (both qualitative and quantitative), forecasting, decision-making, innovation, change management, persuasiveness and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Results minded individual that can communicate the opportunity of growth to the entire staff and lead the sales team to strong opportunities.
  • Strong leadership and teamwork abilities to function well at different levels in a team environment.
  • Territory management and target marketing skills.
  • Solid change agent. Comfortable with implementing changes and discussing it will all parties involved.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, sense of urgency, problem-solving and customer focus.
  • Extensive product knowledge, consultative and relationship selling skills.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Software and relevant sales systems technology.

Responsibilities

  • Aligning local market strategy with corporate strategy to maximize long-term profit and return on working capital.
  • Managing all aspects of logistics in assigned district.
  • Managing and developing relationships with key customers in assigned districts and determining the strategy for value proposition and product penetration.
  • Ensuring all customer commitments are met, and best practices are implemented for safety, safety certification, material handling, inventory management, and delivery.
  • Overseeing sales strategy and working with operations (local, regional, and corporate) to ensure strong communication and appropriate definition and meeting of expectations regarding quality, safety, and BlueLinx brand expectations.
  • Managing sales representatives to improve profitability, product penetration, and product mix with all customers.
  • Conducting joint sales calls with sales representatives to identify opportunities and maintain/build customer relationships (including sales representative coaching/mentoring).
  • Managing inventory levels (including slow, inactive, liquidation/large buys and damaged inventory flow) and aligning local product mix with local market dynamics and product strategy.
  • Leading team; selecting/hiring; developing objectives; coaching and evaluating performance.
  • Ensuring direct reports obtain applicable training and development opportunities to enhance performance, development, and contributions to the company.
  • Holding direct reports accountable for individual and team performance.
  • Maintaining high team engagement.
