About The Position

The General Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the hotel, with a primary focus on guest services, accommodation, front-of-house management, maintenance, and back-of-house areas. This role requires contributing to the hotel's profitability, managing budget guidelines, and preparing annual budgets. The General Manager must maintain the highest quality standards of service, report accidents and incidents, and continuously seek new and improved standards for the hotel. Awareness of all relevant legislation is crucial, as is close collaboration with other hotel departments. The role also involves ensuring staff are presentable, communicating the staff handbook, and coordinating staff training, particularly in Front Office, Accommodation, and Maintenance. Monitoring the Manager on Duty role and being a proactive manager are key aspects of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the overall profitability of the property.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and adhere to budget guidelines.
  • Provide and maintain the highest quality standard of service to all customers.
  • Report any accidents and incidents through the correct communication channels.
  • Identify and implement new and improved standards for the hotel.
  • Stay up-to-date with all legislation related to the hotel.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with all other departments.
  • Maintain a presentable appearance at all times.
  • Communicate the staff handbook details to all departments.
  • Coordinate, manage, and conduct staff training, focusing on Front Office, Accommodation, and Maintenance.
  • Manage and monitor the Manager on Duty role and inform them of any incidents.
  • Act as a proactive manager.
  • Set, monitor, and maintain all standards within the main areas of responsibility.
  • Conduct weekly walkthroughs with department managers and report necessary work.
  • Implement and oversee room quality audits.
  • Conduct weekly CRM system meetings and produce reports.
  • Work closely with third-party operators and vendors.
  • Ensure correct staffing levels within budgetary guidelines, planning for fluctuations.
  • Manage holiday schedules effectively within departments.
  • Produce and distribute the weekly MOD Schedule in advance.
  • Ensure the staff restaurant has varied menus and meets standards.
  • Ensure all back-of-house areas are maintained in perfect condition.
  • Host morning and operations meetings in the absence of the Managing Director.
  • Participate in the Executive Planning Committee and monthly planning meetings.
  • Report maintenance issues through correct channels and ensure CRM system is used properly.
  • Ensure Front Office, Accommodation, and Maintenance update training records and meet training objectives.
  • Assist the Managing Director with the overall valet operation.
  • Ensure the hotel lobby shop has correct merchandise.
  • Manage the hotel's VIP program.
