About The Position

As a General Manager, you will oversee the overall operation and cost-effective management of a comprehensive dining program serving approximately 380 boarding students. This role leads a main café and one retail dining location, operating seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The ideal candidate has experience managing in a unionized environment and thrives in a fast-paced, community-focused setting.

Requirements

  • Union management experience required
  • Minimum of 5+ years of foodservice management experience, including retail dining
  • Strong financial acumen with budgeting and P&L responsibility
  • Knowledge of food trends, quality standards, and cost controls
  • Experience with cash handling and retail systems
  • Proven leadership, coaching, and team development skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer systems

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Service Management, Hospitality, or equivalent experience
  • Experience in multi-unit or complex dining operations preferred
  • Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) certification is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily dining operations across the café and retail location, ensuring high-quality food and service
  • Manage a 7-day operation with multiple meal periods
  • Lead and develop a diverse team within a union environment, ensuring compliance with labor agreements
  • Ensure all operational timelines, client expectations, and service standards are consistently met
  • Manage financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and P&L accountability
  • Maintain compliance with food safety, sanitation, and regulatory standards
  • Build strong relationships with students, clients, and stakeholders
  • Analyze operational challenges and implement effective solutions
  • Conduct management meetings and maintain clear communication across teams
  • Oversee hiring, training, and development of staff
  • Audit operations to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards
  • Drive retail performance through merchandising, marketing, and customer engagement
