About The Position

As a General Manager, you will oversee the overall operation and cost-effective management of a comprehensive dining program serving approximately 380 boarding students. This role leads a main café and one retail dining location, operating seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The ideal candidate has experience managing in a unionized environment and thrives in a fast-paced, community-focused setting.

Requirements

Union management experience required
Minimum of 5+ years of foodservice management experience, including retail dining
Strong financial acumen with budgeting and P&L responsibility
Knowledge of food trends, quality standards, and cost controls
Experience with cash handling and retail systems
Proven leadership, coaching, and team development skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer systems

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in Food Service Management, Hospitality, or equivalent experience
Experience in multi-unit or complex dining operations preferred
Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) certification is a plus

Responsibilities

Oversee daily dining operations across the café and retail location, ensuring high-quality food and service
Manage a 7-day operation with multiple meal periods
Lead and develop a diverse team within a union environment, ensuring compliance with labor agreements
Ensure all operational timelines, client expectations, and service standards are consistently met
Manage financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and P&L accountability
Maintain compliance with food safety, sanitation, and regulatory standards
Build strong relationships with students, clients, and stakeholders
Analyze operational challenges and implement effective solutions
Conduct management meetings and maintain clear communication across teams
Oversee hiring, training, and development of staff
Audit operations to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards
Drive retail performance through merchandising, marketing, and customer engagement
