About The Position

The General Manager, Utilities is responsible for leading the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of the plant’s refrigeration and boiler systems, with a strong focus on ammonia refrigeration and PSM compliance. This role partners closely with the Maintenance Manager to support budget planning, resource utilization, and continuous improvement initiatives across the facility. This position provides direct oversight of the refrigeration department, including daily operations, preventative and corrective maintenance activities, team member scheduling, and ensuring the availability of parts and materials required to support uptime and safety. The General Manager, Utilities, works closely with Plant PSM and Area PSM Coordinators to ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements related to ammonia refrigeration. As a key maintenance leader, this role collaborates with site leadership to support the maintenance, upkeep, and improvement of utilities, production equipment, facility infrastructure, and grounds, while promoting a strong safety culture and operational discipline.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 7 years of ammonia refrigeration experience
  • Working knowledge of industrial refrigeration and boiler systems
  • Strong understanding of PSM requirements and regulatory compliance
  • Standard computer proficiency and documentation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must not have 4 or more attendance points for locations on an 8 point policy (on application date)
  • No written warning in the past six (6) months
  • No suspension on record for the last 12 months

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in a technical or related field
  • Prior supervisory or lead experience in a manufacturing or plant environment
  • CIRO (Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator) certification
  • RETA certification or other recognized ammonia refrigeration credentials
  • Experience supporting maintenance budgets and resource planning

Responsibilities

  • Lead day‑to‑day operation and maintenance of refrigeration and boiler systems
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable ammonia refrigeration and PSM regulations
  • Partner with the Maintenance Manager to assist in budget development, forecasting, and cost control
  • Develop and manage refrigeration team work schedules to ensure adequate coverage
  • Ensure availability of parts, materials, and resources to support maintenance activities
  • Support preventative maintenance and reliability initiatives for utilities systems
  • Collaborate with Plant and Area PSM teams to maintain audit readiness and regulatory compliance
  • Serve as a technical and leadership resource supporting overall facility maintenance initiatives
  • Promote safe work practices and reinforce site safety expectations
