About The Position

Join the Green Team as General Manager II in Chesapeake, VA! GFL Environmental is looking for a high-energy, strategic, and hands-on General Manager II to lead our top-tier team and multi-million-dollar facility operations in Chesapeake, VA. This role involves setting the vision, ensuring team safety, and driving the cleanliness and environmental health of the Chesapeake area. The General Manager II will lead and inspire a dynamic team across operations, sales, customer service, and maintenance. They will oversee a significant revenue operation, manage monthly P&Ls, optimize routes, and implement cost-control strategies. A key aspect of the role is championing safety and accident prevention programs. The position also involves community engagement, partnering with sales for market growth, and leading contract negotiations. Utilizing technology for efficiency is crucial, including routing and dispatch software.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in the waste industry (or an equivalent blend of operational leadership and general management experience).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on leadership track record).
  • Strong leadership skills with excellent communication abilities, thriving in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong financial acumen (EBITDA, ROA, profit planning).
  • Comfort using operations and routing software.
  • Valid work authorization in the country where the job is located is required.
  • Ability to provide valid documentation confirming eligibility to work in the country where the job is located prior to start date.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, mentor, and empower a dynamic team across operations, sales, customer service, and maintenance.
  • Oversee a $20M+ revenue operation, reviewing monthly P&Ls, optimizing compaction and roll-off routes, and introducing smart cost-control strategies.
  • Lead safety and accident prevention programs to ensure employee safety.
  • Build relationships across the Chesapeake community.
  • Partner with sales teams to unlock new market growth.
  • Lead contract negotiations.
  • Utilize cutting-edge routing and dispatch technology (RouteSmart, Full Route Roll-Off Dispatch) to deliver peak efficiency.
