General Maintenance Worker (Wednesday - Sunday; 8:30am - 5:00pm)
About The Position
The General Maintenance Worker performs semi-skilled manual work in building maintenance, tree-trimming operations, and/or grounds maintenance under general supervision. The role includes cleaning parks, buildings, and restrooms; performing landscape and turf maintenance; operating vehicles, mowers, and other equipment; and carrying out general building maintenance and repairs. The employee also performs safety inspections, prepares spaces for activities, and completes related work as required. The position requires heavy manual labor, sometimes in adverse weather conditions. Work may take place outdoors around dust, dirt, and chemicals, and may involve working in bucket trucks. The stated schedule is Wednesday through Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Requirements
- High school graduation or an acceptable equivalency diploma.
- One year of experience doing heavy manual labor; a comparable combination of education, training, and experience may be substituted.
- Valid Florida Driver's License with a good driving record.
- Knowledge of routine manual cleaning and facility upkeep, landscaping and turf maintenance, building and/or grounds maintenance, and tools and equipment related to the work.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor, including under adverse weather conditions; follow written and oral instructions; and complete daily worksheets and/or keep records.
- Skill in operating and performing preventative maintenance on equipment and tools related to the position.
- Physical strength, agility, and condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
- Ability to respond positively and receptively to supervision and direction; report to work promptly and properly prepared; follow attendance and accrued-time rules; interact politely and courteously with the public; care for equipment according to specifications; and show consideration and respect for cultural, religious, and gender differences.
- Acceptable hearing and eyesight, with or without aids or correction; ability to lift and carry 45 pounds or more and to walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, drive, and operate equipment.
- Applicants must not have used tobacco or nicotine products for at least three months before applying.
Responsibilities
- Maintain buildings, grounds, and/or parks, including cleaning, scraping, painting, and litter control.
- Clean and maintain parks and building restrooms; sweep, mop, scrub, wax, and polish floors and furniture.
- Perform landscape, tree-care, turf, and general grounds maintenance, including mowing and weeding.
- Spray grounds with insecticides and herbicides when required.
- Install turf on fields, parks, and other grounds when required.
- Perform preventative maintenance on vehicles and operate vehicles, mowers, and related equipment.
- Use tree-trimming tools, chainsaws, clippers, and bucket trucks as required.
- Perform general building maintenance and repairs and conduct safety inspections.
- Operate cleaning machines, buffers, and vacuum cleaners.
- Set up chairs and tables for activities and assist with cleanup.
- Prepare daily written and oral reports, complete worksheets, and maintain records.
- Perform other job-related duties as required.
