General Maintenance Worker (Utilities)

About The Position

This position is assigned to the Utilities Department – Transmission Distribution Division. The role requires using tools and equipment to excavate, remove, and install meters while maintaining compliance with city standards. Under close supervision, assists with general labor and maintenance tasks. Assists with various manual labor tasks in the cleaning, maintenance and repair of municipal buildings, facilities, grounds, streets and parks; provides basic upkeep of vehicles and transports as required to maintenance shops; fire hydrant testing and related data input; duties may vary according to job assignment and individual skills. Performs job duties within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; reports safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations. Follows all safety rules and regulations to minimize risk of accidents and enhance safety of the facilities. Learns a variety of general maintenance work methods and procedures, and the operation and maintenance of specialized tools and equipment. Supports the relationship between the City of Yuma and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; promotes the City goals and priorities, and complies with all City policies and procedures. Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
A valid Arizona State Driver's License is required

Nice To Haves

Some experience in general maintenance work is preferred
Knowledge of City policies and procedures
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
Skill in using basic tools in a safe and effective manner
Skill in following verbal and written instructions and procedures

Responsibilities

Assist in the City of Yuma’s water meter replacement program
Participate in projects related to Lead Service Line Inventory (LSLI) and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)
