About The Position

Bennett College is seeking a General Maintenance Technician to support the upkeep of its facilities. The role performs repairs and maintenance in areas such as painting, flooring, minor plumbing, carpentry, plastering, and basic electrical, air-conditioning, and heating systems, under the supervision of senior management. The technician may assist skilled tradespeople, support emergency response, help with special events, and perform groundskeeping tasks.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
• Two or more years of related experience.
• Valid driver's license.
• Basic phone and computer skills, including email and texting.
• Ability to present oneself professionally and demonstrate honesty and ethical conduct.
• Ability to maintain a positive attitude and communicate professionally and respectfully with coworkers and other departments.
• Ability to maintain professional relationships with coworkers, vendor representatives, supervisors, managers, customers, and client representatives.
• Good attention to detail.
• Ability to work well under pressure, independently, and as part of a team.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Three or more years of general facilities maintenance experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance services or repairs in one or more skill areas, including minor plumbing, carpentry, painting, and plastering.
• Assemble furniture and assist with office relocations.
• Perform tasks such as changing light bulbs and filters, installing paper dispenser units, changing door locks, and completing minor decorative maintenance.
• Identify and correct unsafe working conditions with management oversight.
• Comply with College safety risk management policies and procedures, report accidents and injuries promptly, and participate in safety meetings, training, and hazard assessments.
• Perform work in accordance with established safety procedures.
• Perform snow removal and other groundskeeping activities as needed.
• Assist with special events as needed.
• Drive a cart or other vehicle as needed.
• Assist skilled trade workers with specific or standard duties to learn new skills for advancement and certification.
• Use basic cleaning and other chemicals as required.
• Support necessary tasks during emergencies and perform other duties as assigned.
