About The Position

Weiser Memorial Hospital--rated as one of Idaho's best places to work--is looking to hire a General Maintenance Technician to join our team. The General Maintenance Technician assists in the performance of duties necessary to keep the physical structure and associated equipment of hospital in good repair. Minor maintenance, repairs and other duties are primary duties. Assists with plumbing, electrical, and HVAC maintenance and repairs. Assists in minor construction projects and in janitorial duties. Assists in maintaining and controlling security within the hospital as well as external security. Assists in responsibilities for landscaping and grounds maintenance services for the facility. Helps oversee all hospital safety management programs in order to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and hospital personnel. Participates in performance improvement and QPI activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a maintenance technician or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in confined spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all assigned tasks in a professional manner to reflect the highest integrity of the Facilities Department.
  • Assists in maintaining and repairing HVAC controls and associated equipment to maximize efficiency levels in all environmentally controlled areas.
  • Performs urgent corrective, routine and requisitioned repairs of electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems as required.
  • Performs maintenance on equipment and systems as required.
  • As required, assists in maintaining electrical wiring and emergency generator systems.
  • Inspects and tests equipment/systems.
  • Performs preventive maintenance duties to all physical structures of hospital and complies with all building safety codes. This is to include facility equipment and associated controls.
  • Assists in replacing, installing, repairing, and testing electrical circuits, equipment, appliances, and lighting systems as required.
  • Maintains routine records of all inspections, preventive maintenance and repairs performed on any equipment or system.
  • Performs manual duties as requested (i.e., moving supplies or furniture, replacing light bulbs, removing trash or scrap material).
  • Performs risk assessments to proactively identify potential and actual risks to safety, identifies underlying causes and makes improvements to reduce risks.
  • Assists in enforcing safety regulations and codes.
  • Conducts building and grounds hazard surveillance surveys on a periodic and regular basis to detect code violations, hazards and incorrect work practices and procedures.
  • Assists in the upkeep of facility grounds.
  • Ensures landscaping is uniform with a satisfactory appearance.
  • Helps ensure that all outside walkways are clear of debris, snow and ice
  • Follows all safety regulations: wears safety apparel when working, i.e., safety glasses, appropriate shoes.
  • Assists in maintaining records to ensure compliance with local, state, federal, NFPA, and CMS regulations.
  • Helps perform scheduled and unscheduled inspections, maintenance, and electrical safety tests of biomedical equipment to maintain code compliance.
  • Assists in maintaining the records of all equipment handled by the Biomedical Engineering Department.
  • Works day, weekends, evening, or nights as needed.
  • Ability to do work on his/her own with only normal supervision.
  • Ability to work well on his/her own and to inspect facilities and equipment.
  • A working knowledge of fire alarm and signal systems.
  • Knowledge and observance of safety precautions.
  • Participates in performance improvement and information management activities.
  • A thorough knowledge of how to use and maintain plant tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and can identify each patient’s age-specific needs to promote a safe environment needed by the patient group.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
