About The Position

The General Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine and preventive maintenance, diagnosing complex mechanical and electrical issues, and repairing a variety of equipment with a focus on cranes and other weight-handling equipment (WHE). This role requires hands-on technical skills, strong problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to safety and reliability. The ideal candidate will bring experience in troubleshooting, inspections, and repair across a wide range of mechanical systems, while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • 5–10 years of experience as a maintenance or mechanical technician.
  • Strong background in cranes, overhead hoists, and mobile/heavy equipment maintenance.
  • Proficient in reading hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic schematics and technical manuals.
  • Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, and precision measurement tools.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License with clean record; CDL preferred.
  • Ability to pass a drug screen and background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Proven experience as a general maintenance or crane/heavy equipment technician.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and documentation.
  • Familiarity with EPA, OSHA, and industry safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on cranes, hoists, and other WHE.
  • Inspect, test, and certify equipment to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical failures.
  • Conduct equipment operations and rigging when required.
  • Prepare written specifications for major repairs or new parts.
  • Reassemble and adjust equipment for proper operation.
  • Study work tasks and determine procedures, tools, and materials needed.
  • Troubleshoot issues using blueprints, schematics, manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Perform electrical installations, wiring, and circuit troubleshooting (AC/DC, radio-controlled systems).
  • Repair or replace gearboxes, relays, motors, and switchgear.
  • Conduct basic arc welding for repair purposes when required.
  • Communicate with supervisors, engineers, and production staff to coordinate maintenance needs.
  • Maintain and organize tools, supplies, and equipment.
  • Keep work areas safe, clean, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
