About The Position

The General Maintenance Laborer cleans and maintains work areas, washrooms, office premises, and transportation vehicles. Duties include cleaning vehicle interiors with appropriate equipment and chemicals, removing foreign materials, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, and performing minor exterior cleaning. The role also involves cleaning and sanitizing bus lavatories, dumping lavatory waste at an approved facility, using steam-cleaning equipment, and replenishing sanitary supplies as needed. The position supports general site cleanliness by emptying trash receptacles, cleaning glass and metal surfaces, dusting, mopping, cleaning doors, handrails, partitions, and doormats, and removing litter and debris from assigned areas. Additional duties include reporting damage and defects, performing scheduled preventative maintenance work and minor landscaping, preparing cleaning materials, and operating vehicles in the yard as needed in accordance with DOT regulations.

Requirements

Must be a United States Citizen.
Must have completed a standard grade.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
Must be able to pass a post-offer/pre-employment physical.
Must have a valid Class C driver's license and maintain a safe driving record.
Must have basic janitorial or housekeeping experience and knowledge, with six months of experience in fields providing the knowledge, skills, and abilities identified in the job description.
Must know how to use cleaning materials such as soaps, powders, and cleaning chemicals.
Must have an excellent verbal and written command of English and be able to read and comprehend written correspondence.
Must be able to understand and interpret verbal and written instructions.
Must have organizational skills commensurate with the position and the ability to prioritize tasks.
Must be able to bend, kneel, and crouch to clean vehicle interiors.
Must be regularly able to sit, walk, stand, speak, and hear.
Must be able to use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel, or operate equipment and reach with hands and arms.
Must occasionally be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

Clean vehicle interiors, including driver’s compartments, walls, ceilings, windows, handrails, mirrors, seats, step wells, and floors, using appropriate equipment and chemicals.
Remove foreign materials from vehicle interiors.
Vacuum and shampoo carpets.
Perform minor exterior cleaning of vehicles.
Assist with cleaning work areas and preparing cleaning materials.
Operate vehicles in the yard as needed in accordance with DOT regulations.
Report damage, broken items, and upholstery defects.
Dump bus lavatory waste at an approved facility.
Prepare and sanitize bus lavatories with proper chemicals.
Clean parts and items with a steam cleaner as needed or directed.
Empty trash receptacles and change plastic liners or sand as assigned.
Clean glass surfaces and polish metal surfaces as assigned.
Dust surfaces and undersurfaces as assigned.
Mop floors with a treated sweep mop as assigned.
Clean interior and exterior door surfaces, handrails, and partitions as assigned.
Clean doormats at entrances, corridors, and recreation areas.
Identify, pick up, and remove litter, rubbish, debris, trash, and other loose objects from assigned areas.
Notify the Supervisor when areas outside the general assignment require additional policing.
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance work as assigned.
Perform minor landscaping duties.
Perform other duties as assigned or directed.
