About The Position

We seek a highly skilled and experienced General Ledger Accountant to join our dynamic procurement team. The General Ledger Accountant will be responsible for the company's general ledger accounting and month-end closing process, while also handling portions of daily accounts receivable management. Collaborate with the head office shared service center to ensure accurate and timely financial data, providing reliable financial support for plant operations. This role is a key member of the finance team, expected to independently manage the full GL function and assist the Finance Manager in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of monthly, quarterly, and annual closings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in general ledger accounting, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
  • Solid understanding of fixed asset lifecycle management and inventory control principles.
  • Solid understanding of Canadian accounting standards (ASPE/IFRS) and month-end closing procedures.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Yonyou, Kingdee, QuickBooks, Yardi) and advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, financial functions).
  • Strong analytical skills, able to independently complete balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision to complete month-end tasks accurately and on time.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong sense of data accuracy and compliance.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external customers.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meet tight reporting deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with or overseeing a shared service center is highly advantageous.
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) or active enrollment in the CPA program is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Execute monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities, including journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Act as the primary local finance contact with the shared service center, proactively monitoring their work quality, identifying and resolving discrepancies, and ensuring all transactions are correctly recorded and allocated to the appropriate entity.
  • Oversee the integrity of the local chart of accounts, investigating and correcting cost misallocations in a timely manner.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding collections to ensure timely recovery of funds.
  • Support the Finance Manager in the implementation of finance-related policies and procedures.
  • Take full ownership of fixed asset accounting for the Windsor facility, including machinery, equipment, tooling, and vehicles.
  • Establish and maintain the fixed asset register in the financial system, ensuring accurate recording of all asset acquisitions, transfers, and disposals.
  • Coordinate with operations and procurement teams to track assets under construction and equipment prepayments, ensuring timely capitalization.
  • Manage and reconcile inventory accounts for raw materials, spare parts, and consumable supplies, supporting regular cycle counts and investigating discrepancies.
  • Lead the annual physical asset count and ensure financial records fully align with physical verification.
  • Support the Finance Manager in providing financial data and analysis to the Plant General Manager as required.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests related to GL and asset management.
  • Undertake ad-hoc projects as assigned by the Finance Manager.
