About The Position

Austin Industrial is seeking a detail-oriented, flexible General Laborer for our GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) operations in Decatur, IL. This role involves a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks in an industrial setting. The ideal candidate will be willing to take on non-routine cleaning and special projects as needed, assist other craft workers, and maintain a clean and safe job site. Responsibilities include material handling, ensuring safety procedures are followed, and performing strenuous physical labor under various conditions. Requirements

  • Must be detail-oriented, flexible and willing to take on non-routine cleaning and special projects as the need arises.
  • Some knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies used in an industrial setting.
  • Some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.

Nice To Haves

  • May clean and prepare sites, clean up rubble and debris and remove waste materials.
  • May assist other craft workers.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean job site: pick up all tools and equipment and secure job site each day in order to eliminate potential hazards.
  • Material handling and storage.
  • Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
  • Bring problems to the attention of the Foreman or Safety personnel.
  • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.
  • Gather and empty trash.
  • Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
  • Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
  • Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
  • Clean and restore building interiors damaged by fire, smoke, or water, using commercial cleaning equipment.
  • Clean laboratory equipment, such as glassware and metal instruments, using solvents, brushes, rags, and power cleaning equipment.
  • Drive vehicles required to perform or travel to cleaning work, including vans, industrial trucks, or industrial vacuum cleaners.
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.
  • Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
  • Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.
