About The Position

This role involves a variety of tasks in a scrap metal yard environment, focusing on material handling, equipment maintenance, and general upkeep. The position requires physical stamina and a commitment to safety and environmental regulations. Employees are expected to maintain a clean and organized workspace and assist with various operational needs.

Requirements

Must pass a medical physical and drug test.
Must pass a background check.
Ability to communicate effectively with others.
Ability to understand direction (written or oral).
Ability to use basic math skills as the job demands.
Willingness to learn how to sort metal, identify colors, shapes, and weights.
Willingness to learn how to properly maintain equipment.
Willingness to learn how to properly utilize PPE.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or GED and/or foreign education acceptable.
Bi-lingual (English & Spanish) language skills.

Responsibilities

Unloading pallets, boxes, and bundles.
Material handling including pushing, pulling, picking, lifting, carrying, and filling hoppers, boxes, and conveyor belts.
Unpacking boxes using box cutters and separating packaging materials.
Disassembling small equipment, cutting wires, torqueing pipe fittings, and removing parts.
Working with recycling equipment such as metal shears, band saws, and wire strippers.
Directing traffic of yard vehicles.
Performing light facility maintenance, including painting, scraping, and moving furniture and equipment.
Assisting with machinery repair by selecting and using tools properly, and pulling and installing parts.
Performing housekeeping duties such as sweeping, cleaning, shoveling, and debris collection.
Conducting moderate and periodic landscaping work.
Cleaning up the work area at the end of the shift.
Keeping work areas neat and orderly.
Organizing materials for effective space utilization.
Disposing of various waste materials appropriately.
Inspecting to ensure cleanup is completed.
Maintaining effective housekeeping for safety and hygiene.
