About The Position

Under close supervision, the General Laborer performs manual labor sorting non-hazardous debris in an open-air recycling area. This role involves inspecting materials and sorting various recycled items such as concrete, plastics, wood, and different grades of metals (copper, brass, aluminum) into appropriate containers or for baling. Responsibilities also include maintaining the cleanliness of the recycle yard by sweeping, raking, and picking up debris, as well as maneuvering barrels and bins. The laborer will direct drivers to proper loading/unloading areas and assist with the loading and unloading of recycling materials. Attendance at weekly safety meetings is mandatory.

Ability to perform moderately heavy physical labor under all types of outdoor weather conditions
Follow oral and written instructions
Work cooperatively with others
Learn and follow safety rules
Learn to identify different grades of recycle material

Nice To Haves

3 months of relevant work experience is a plus

Responsibilities

Ability to inspect materials and sort items or materials into piles or places in container according to type, size or condition.
Sorts a variety of recycled materials, such as concrete, plastics, and wood into containers or bucket loaders
Sorts metals to separate out high-grade metals, such as copper, brass, and aluminum for recycling
Sorts OCC (cardboard) into containers and assists with loading baler machine to prepare for shipping bales
Keeps recycle yard clean by sweeping, raking, picking up broken glass and loose paper debris, and maneuvering barrels and bins into proper locations
Directs drivers to proper loading/unloading areas; assists with unloading and loading recycling materials
Must attend weekly safety meetings
Other duties as assigned
