About The Position

Biewer Sawmill, Inc. in McBain, MI, is seeking a full-time General Labor/Machine Operator to join their dedicated Day Shift team. The position supports daily sawmill production by safely operating round table equipment and assisting in various mill operations, ensuring quality lumber output, maintaining production flow, and promoting a safe, clean, and efficient work environment. Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent and a solid work history.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Solid work history.
  • Language skills to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively and professionally to customers or employees of an organization.
  • Understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Mathematical skills with the ability to calculate figures and amounts using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior manufacturing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Sort, stack, band, and stage lumber according to grade and size specifications.
  • Remove scrap, debris, and wood residuals or byproducts from production areas.
  • Ensure clean work areas by sweeping floors, picking up broken pieces of lumber, and shoveling material.
  • Monitor material flow and prevent jams or downtime.
  • Use hand tools for strapping and tying lumber bundles or blocks.
  • Conduct routine equipment checks and report maintenance needs.
  • Ensure compliance with quality control standards.
  • Support other planer or mill departments as needed.
  • Responsibly follow all safety procedures and policies, and work together with co-workers to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
