About The Position

The Gastroenterologist provides comprehensive consultative, diagnostic, and therapeutic gastroenterology services for patients with disorders of the digestive system. This physician delivers high-quality care across outpatient clinics, endoscopy centers, hospital settings, and affiliated care sites while supporting the continued growth and strategic development of the gastroenterology service line. In addition, the Gastroenterologist collaborates closely with advanced practice providers, primary care physicians, hospitalists, surgeons, oncologists, and other specialists to ensure seamless care coordination and timely access to services. The physician participates in quality improvement initiatives, operational efficiency efforts, clinical program development, and educational activities that support organizational goals and enhance the patient experience.

Requirements

  • Completion of ACGME-accredited Gastroenterology Fellowship
  • MD or DO degree
  • Board Certification or Eligibility in Gastroenterology
  • Active Virginia License and DEA

Responsibilities

  • Provides comprehensive gastroenterology services across outpatient, inpatient, and ambulatory surgery center settings.
  • Collaborates with Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) in a team-based care model to support patient evaluation, treatment planning, and continuity of care.
  • Participates in established referral management and patient triage processes to ensure timely access to gastroenterology services.
  • Works collaboratively with hospital medicine, oncology, surgical services, and other multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care.
  • Contributes to the development, implementation, and expansion of gastroenterology programs and services.
  • Participates in quality improvement, patient access, and operational initiatives designed to enhance clinical outcomes and service delivery.
  • Provides care across multiple practice locations within the health system's regional service area.
  • Supports service line initiatives through participation in physician leadership, quality, operational, educational, or mentoring activities as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
