About The Position

The General Foreman, Surface Operations, plays a critical leadership role in overseeing and coordinating all surface mining activities to ensure safe, efficient, and productive operations. This position is responsible for managing teams, equipment, and resources to meet production goals while adhering to regulatory and company safety standards. The role requires strategic planning and problem-solving to optimize workflows and address operational challenges promptly. The General Foreman acts as a key liaison between management, workforce, and contractors, fostering a collaborative environment that promotes continuous improvement. Ultimately, this position ensures that surface operations run smoothly, safely, and in alignment with organizational objectives.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; a technical degree or certification in mining or related field is preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in surface mining operations with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of surface mining equipment, processes, and safety regulations.
• Proven ability to lead and manage teams in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment.
• Valid driver's license and ability to operate heavy machinery as required.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a related discipline.

• Strong background in environmental compliance and sustainable mining practices.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate daily surface mining operations, including drilling, blasting, loading, and hauling activities.
• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of supervisors, operators, and laborers to maintain high performance and safety standards.
• Develop and implement operational plans to meet production targets while optimizing resource utilization and minimizing downtime.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, company policies, and environmental standards through regular inspections and training.
• Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and safety departments to address equipment issues and operational challenges promptly.
• Monitor operational metrics and prepare reports for senior management to track progress and identify areas for improvement.
• Facilitate effective communication across all levels of the workforce and resolve conflicts or issues that arise during operations.
