About The Position

The General Counsel for the Training, Logistics and Simulation (TLS) line of business in RMS has overall responsibility for legal matters in the business. General Counsel must provide timely, accurate, and consistent legal advice to enable the line of business to achieve business goals while maintaining an acceptable level of business risk. General Counsel will review contractual language and documents to verify that third party relationships are clearly defined within the context of the law and Lockheed Martin policies. General Counsel will ensure that the line of business and supporting functions have adequate legal support for cost effective operations and consistent execution of all customer and supplier contracts. This includes coordination of legal work performed by others, including support from RMS and Corporate attorneys, as well as management of outside counsel. The General Counsel is a member of the TLS Senior Leadership Team.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated success in providing legal counsel for a large, complex business
  • Broad knowledge of government contracts issues/practices; track record of driving change and constructing favorable contractual vehicles; international law experience and/or knowledge; strong business experience with thorough understanding of finance and contracts elements
  • Well established network in the external legal community
  • Demonstrated track record supporting commercial, civil, government and international contracts
  • Team orientation/creative partnering with the ability to partner across geographically diverse locations
  • Able to facilitate business while proactively protecting legal risk
  • Ability to think and act strategically and tactically
  • Able to collaborate with multi-functional teams to support optimum decision-making.
  • Must have admission to practice law
  • Ability to obtain Secret Clearance
  • Must be a US Citizen

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in the aerospace and defense industry
  • Experience at a top law firm, with the government as a prosecutor, and/or in-house at a multi-national company
  • Experience handling complex investigations or litigation involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and other anti-corruption regulations, accounting fraud, procurement fraud, cross-border investigations, and/or the False Claims Act
  • Experience handling classified matters
  • Background in U.S. government contracting

Responsibilities

  • Provides legal advice, counsel and service to internal business clients concerning legal rights, obligations, and privileges of corporations.
  • Responsible for managing the departmental budget.
  • Responsible for coordinating subordinate employee recruitment, selection and training, performance assessments, work assignments, salary, and recognition/disciplinary actions.
  • Draws up contracts involving leases, licenses, purchases, sales, real estate, employment, insurance, mergers, acquisitions and related matters.
  • Keeps current on legislative issues, statutes, decisions and ordinances of quasi-judicial bodies.
  • Examines legal data to determine advisability of defending or prosecuting lawsuit.
  • Acts as agent of corporation in various transactions.
  • Advises company regarding concerns for risk assessment.
  • May develop, review, or implement company-wide and/or functionally specific training programs.
  • May also oversee corporate governance matters and its various committees.
  • May work with outside counsel to direct activities.
